That trait allows her predecessors to make aggressive plays when needed, but Roon’s turret arrangement and lack of torpedoes really hinder her in the regard. Roon, however, has all the tankiness you’ve come to expect with Yorck and Hipper. The full rotation on the rear turrets also helps a lot. I like Konisberg and Nurnberg - the AXY turret arrangement works well with their status as weekly armored kiting cruisers. I was thinking something like a 10-gun ship with mixed twin/triple main armament in an AB/XY armament and Yorck’s and Hipper’s 4x3 torpedo armament would be more comfortable, fit better with the rest of the line, and serve as a good “halfway point” between Hipper and Hindenburg. Hindenburg is a very good ship, but Roon is pretty awkward. When the German cruiser line first released WG didn’t really have anything to draw from (at the time not being willing to introduce cruisers with >203mm guns) so they instead just gave us “bigger” versions of the historical Leipzig- and Hipper-classes. I’m grinding through Roon yet again for the RB, and I’ve been having thoughts along this line as well. Personally , it would not surprise me if WG does a German Cruiser Split, pull Roon from Tier IX and make her a Premium Ship like they did GK & Khavarovsk, and replace her with a fake, more traditional looking CA that doesn't break the experience you have learned from VII Yorck -> VIII A dmiral Hipper. But some guys do like the setup and appreciate it. If you hated those 2, you were not going to like Roon. People have commented in the past about whether they hated or liked Konigsberg, Nurnberg style setup. The Hipper-class pack a lot of torpedoes, which you need because German torpedoes don't have the greatest alpha damage. Tier X you return to traditional Cruiser style setup.Ĭorrect also on the drop in torpedo lethality from Hipper to Roon. Tier IX you revert to the Konigsberg style, but with 203mm guns. Tier VII-VIII are very traditional Cruiser style setups. Tier V-VI are the Konigsberg style setups. The transition to Roon is a weird one in the German Cruiser Line.
